Peter Roney is King's Counsel at the Qld and NSW Bar. He principally works in the areas of corporate and commercial litigation, equity, corporate and joint venture management, mining, gas production and property law. He also practices in Human Rights law, and the application of the Human Rights Act in commercial industrial and other contexts, both as a Tribunal member and as counsel.


Peter is and has been listed continuously for in Doyles’ Guide since 2016 to the present as one of a few Leading Senior Counsel practicing in Employment law and Industrial Workplace Safety law.


He has acted as a mediator to resolve commercial and other complex litigation.

Peter's professional practice has specialized in advocacy in general commercial law, corporate management, equity, confidential information, passing off misleading conduct,  anti-discrimination law, insolvency, consumer protection, real property, body corporate and community management litigation, occupational health and safety law, mining, coal seam gas related litigation, Coronial Inquiries and Inquests, major building and construction and engineering disputes, defamation and some commercial criminal trial work.
He has appeared in many substantial defended prosecutions for breaches of coal mining, coal seam gas and other related and other Health and Safety laws.

He has wide experience in coal mining, petroleum, coal seam gas and other related mining commercial litigation with complex engineering issues. In recent years he has appeared for several Local and International Mining organizations and their staff and management at inquests into Coal Mining related deaths where there was the prospect of prosecutions. He was directly involved in defending the prosecution of the Defendants in the first Industrial Manslaughter case brought in Qld.

He has sat as a sessional member of QCAT since it was established in 2009 in the Human Rights/ Anti-Discrimination and Body Corporate management as well as other divisions.

In 2023 He was appointed as a Senior Member to NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT) Administrative and Equal Opportunity Division He sat previously as a member of the Qld Anti-discrimination Tribunal.
