Jason holds a Master of Laws (LLM), Graduate Diploma and Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from QUT as well as Bachelor of Professional Studies (UNE) and a Graduate Diploma in resource Management (DofD).
Jason was admitted as a solicitor in 2007, practicing in a mid-sized Queensland (now national) firm before being called to the private Bar in 2009 where he continues to practice.
While primarily practicing in the District and Supreme Courts of Queensland, Jason has appeared in most Australian jurisdictions and since 2013 has appeared internationally in the Solomon Islands including appearing successfully unled in the Solomon Islands Court of Appeal.
Jason’s substantive practice includes appearing in complex commercial contract including multi jurisdiction legal issues, partnership disputes, tax law test cases at first instance and on appeal, company derivative actions and corresponding oppressive conduct cases as well as matters in restraint of trade and issues of statutory and contractual construction.
His applications practice regularly includes the seeking of and resisting of freezing orders, the appointment of receivers and statutory trustees, the winding up of companies, the appointment of statutory trustees, interlocutory injunctions which have included the removal of individuals from businesses and return of property as well as injunctions of employees and competing businesses in restraint of trade.
He has been a member of the Queensland Bar Association General Litigation (Practice & Procedure/Insurance Law/Personal Injuries) Committee since 2014. He has previously presented and taught on issues of evidence on the Queensland Bar Course and is a co-author of the book Civil Procedure in the Solomon Islands available through Lexis Nexis Australia (2020) and presented professional papers including as to the obligations of pleading a counterfactual in circumstances of asserted breach of duty and the operation of s100A of the ITAA.
Jason also has an interest in sport and sports law having served as the legal counsel of the Australian Weightlifting Federation (AWF) and Queensland Weightlifting Association (QWA). He has appeared at the Queensland Rugby League tribunal and sat as a member of both the Greater Brisbane Junior Rugby League (GBJRL) and the Brisbane Junior Rugby Union (BJRU) judiciary. He also coaches both rugby union and weightlifting.
Before coming to the law, Jason served in the Australian Army from 1990 - 2004. He is a graduate of the Royal Military College – Duntroon and served as an infantry officer on operations as a Captain in Bosnia Herzegovina and as a Major in Timor Leste before retiring in 2004.
